Then remove the clutch and have a look at it and the pulley/field. An incorrect air gap may be the cause between the clutch and pulley. If its shimmed too much, Air gap too great, it will spin at a slightly different speed than the belt driven compressor pulley and cause the metallic noise you are hearing.…

We turned the wheel with hood up to check power steering with no problems. My husband revved the engine with the hood up and then it quit.
