It's hard to find a good balance tbh :/ I don't mind the 1PP darkness personally, I like that it's so dark it encourages use of light sources, whereas the 3PP night is so bright that they feel useless and even NVG's aren't that much help. They can change their name, but with the lock, can't change their color or features, which makes identifying an impersonator much easier. Rust has better building and more focus on base raiding. Dayz is deeper, has more mechanics, is harder and has more focus on survival. DayZ's Christmas and 10 year update is here!
